Mods need memory, and a server that doesn't flinch

A modded Minecraft server is a different beast to a vanilla one. Every mod adds blocks, machines, mobs and world generation for the server to keep track of, and big modpacks can carry hundreds of mods. That means more memory, faster storage for chunk loading, and a panel that makes swapping loaders and packs painless.

Our Minecraft plans run on DDR5 RAM and NVMe storage, with one-click modpacks and unlimited player slots on every size. You can install a CurseForge pack, pick a loader and add your own mods, or upload a server pack you already have.

01

Forge, NeoForge, Fabric or a modpack?

The loader decides which mods you can run, and mods for one loader won't load on another. Pick based on the mods or pack you want to play:

  • Forge: the classic loader for big content mods, with a huge back catalogue.
  • NeoForge: the successor to Forge on newer Minecraft versions, used by many recent packs.
  • Fabric: lightweight and quick to update, popular for performance mods and the latest versions.
  • CurseForge modpack: a ready-made bundle of mods and configs, installed in one go.

Players need the same loader and mods on their side, which for a CurseForge pack simply means installing the same pack in the CurseForge app. Our Minecraft setup guide goes through each option.

02

How much RAM does a modpack need?

It depends on the pack and how many players are online, but our plan line-up gives a good steer:

  • 8 GB Gold: a large vanilla-style server or a modest modpack.
  • 12 GB Lapis: our recommended size, the sweet spot for most modpacks and busy communities.
  • 16 GB Redstone: heavy modpacks and bigger player counts.
  • 24 GB Emerald and 32 GB Diamond: demanding packs, large groups and huge modded worlds.

Smaller packs with a handful of mods can run happily on less. If your pack's own page lists a recommended server RAM, use that as your floor and add a little for players.

03

Installing a modpack or your own mods

One-click modpack installs from the panel are the easy route. If you're building your own mod list instead, the process is simple:

  1. 1Stop the server and take a backup.
  2. 2Choose the loader and Minecraft version that match your mods.
  3. 3Upload each mod's .jar file into the mods folder with the file manager.
  4. 4Start the server and watch the console. Missing dependencies or version mismatches show up there.

Get mods from trusted sites such as CurseForge and Modrinth, and remember client-only mods like minimaps or shaders don't belong on the server.

04

Backups and updating your pack

Modded worlds can be fragile across updates. A new pack version might remove a mod or change world generation, and there's no clean way back without a backup. Automatic daily backups are included on every plan, and you can take a manual one in a click before any update.

Switching versions or packs is done from the panel. Take a backup first, then check the pack's changelog for anything that needs a fresh world.

Frequently asked questions

Still stuck? Real people are on live chat and Discord around the clock.

Yes. CurseForge modpacks install in one click from the panel, and you can switch packs later. You can also upload a server pack yourself.

Yes, NeoForge is one of the server types you can pick, alongside Forge, Fabric, Paper and vanilla.

Plugins are for Paper, Spigot and Bukkit, and they do nothing on a Forge or Fabric server. Pick the server type that matches what you want to run.

The usual causes are a mod built for a different loader or Minecraft version, a missing dependency, a client-only mod, or too little memory for the pack. The console names the problem in most cases, and our team is happy to help read it.

Slots are unlimited on every plan. The real limit is memory, so bigger packs and more players need a larger plan.

Yes. Upload your world and mods through the file manager, making sure the loader and versions match. We can help you move it if you open a ticket.
