VPS vs dedicated server

3 min read

A VPS and a dedicated server both hand you root access and the freedom to run whatever you like. The difference is how the hardware is shared.

VPS

A virtual private server is a guaranteed slice of a powerful host machine, with its own CPU, RAM and NVMe storage ringfenced for you. It is fast, affordable and scales in a couple of clicks. Perfect for most websites, apps, bots and small to medium workloads.

Dedicated server

An entire physical machine, yours alone. Every core, every gigabyte of RAM and all the I/O is dedicated to you, with 330 TB of monthly transfer included. Choose it for heavy databases, large communities, high traffic, or anything that needs consistent, uncompromised performance.

Quick rule of thumb

  • Starting out, or want easy scaling: VPS.
  • Need maximum, guaranteed performance and full hardware isolation: dedicated.
  • Growing fast: start on a VPS and move to dedicated when you outgrow it.

Our UK and US locations cover both, and we will help you migrate up when the time comes.
