Your Palworld server is playable straight away with the default settings. When you want to make it your own, whether that is faster levelling, more Pals or turning on PvP, it all lives in one file.
Where the settings live
In the file manager in our game panel, open Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini. If it is empty, copy the contents of DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini from the server's main folder into it as a starting point.
All the settings sit on a single line that starts OptionSettings=( and ends with a closing bracket. Keep it on one line, keep the commas between settings, and only change the values. One stray character can stop the server reading the file, so take a backup first.
Settings worth changing
- ExpRate: how fast players level up. 1.000000 is normal, 2.000000 is double.
- PalCaptureRate: how easy Pals are to catch.
- PalSpawnNumRate: how many Pals spawn in the world.
- DayTimeSpeedRate and NightTimeSpeedRate: how quickly days and nights pass.
- CollectionDropRate and EnemyDropItemRate: how much you get from gathering and from defeated enemies.
- PalEggDefaultHatchingTime: hours for a huge egg to hatch. Lower it for quicker breeding.
- DeathPenalty: what players drop on death, from None through to All.
- ServerName, ServerDescription and ServerPassword: how your server appears, and the password friends need to join.
- AdminPassword: lets you use admin commands in game. Pick something strong.
Difficulty
The file has a Difficulty setting, but on a dedicated server the individual rates are what actually shape how hard the game feels. Damage settings such as PalDamageRateAttack, PalDamageRateDefense, PlayerDamageRateAttack and PlayerDamageRateDefense, alongside the hunger and stamina rates, are the ones to tweak for an easier or tougher world.
PvP
To let players fight each other, set bEnablePlayerToPlayerDamage=True, and on recent versions bIsPvP=True as well. bEnableFriendlyFire controls whether players can hurt their own guild.
Applying your changes
- Stop the server before editing, so nothing overwrites your changes.
- Edit PalWorldSettings.ini and save it.
- Check the Startup tab in our game panel too. Settings shown there, such as the server name, password or player count, take priority over the file.
- Start the server. Palworld only reads its settings on start-up, so changes never apply until you restart.
Inviting friends
- Find your server's IP and port at the top of the panel.
- In Palworld, choose Join Multiplayer Game.
- Type the IP and port into the box at the bottom, in the form IP:port, and connect.
- Enter the server password if you set one.
If friends cannot connect, check that they are on the same game version as the server. Palworld updates often, so if the server is behind, ask us on live chat or Discord and we will help you update it.
