Hosting DayZ

A DayZ server simulates a big open map full of loot, zombies, vehicles and players, so it needs a good amount of memory and a fast CPU. The builder suggests 6 GB, which suits a vanilla or lightly modded server.

Modded servers with custom maps, trader systems and base building mods often need 8 to 12 GB, and the biggest community servers 16 GB.

01

Server settings

Most settings live in serverDZ.cfg: the server name, password, max players, time acceleration, and whether third person or crosshairs are allowed. Edit it in the file manager and restart. The maps that ship with the server, such as Chernarus, are set by the mission template in the same file.

02

Loot and the economy

DayZ's central economy is controlled by files in your mission folder, mainly types.xml, which sets how many of each item spawns and how long it lasts. Tuning these is how servers create loot-heavy, hardcore or PvE experiences. Take a backup before big changes, as a broken XML file stops the server from starting.

03

Mods

DayZ mods come from the Steam Workshop. Upload each mod folder to your server, copy its key into the keys folder, and add it to the mods line in your startup settings. Players need the same mods, which launchers like DZSA or the official DayZ launcher handle when they join. Popular choices include CF, Community Online Tools, Expansion and custom maps.

04

Hardware and location

Premium Ryzen 7950X hardware keeps busy servers with lots of AI and vehicles steady. Pick Salt Lake City or Dallas for North America, or Newcastle for the UK and Europe.

05

Admin tools

DayZ has no built-in admin menu, so most servers use a mod like Community Online Tools for teleporting, spawning and moderating, or an RCon tool that connects through BattlEye. Set your RCon password in the BattlEye config in your server's files.

“Staff is really helpful and the prices for the VPS’s are the cheapest I have seen. I ran my Minecraft community only off a 12GB VPS. Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

Yes. Upload the mod folders, copy their keys into the keys folder and add them to the mods line in your startup settings.

Edit types.xml and the other economy files in your mission folder. They control how much of each item spawns and how long it stays.

Yes. These are PC DayZ servers. Xbox and PlayStation players can't join them.

Yes. Upload your mission folder, mods and profiles with SFTP, or add free migration to your order and our team will move it.

Budget runs on Intel Xeon servers with DDR4 memory and SSD storage, and is great value for smaller servers and friends. Premium runs on AMD Ryzen 7950X servers with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage: much faster per core, which busy or heavily modded servers notice most.

Premium servers are set up automatically: once your payment goes through, your server is created and you can log in to the game panel straight away. Budget hardware and our Dallas location are on pre-order, so those servers are set up as soon as they launch.

Pick the one closest to most of your players: Salt Lake City or Dallas for North America, Newcastle for the UK and Europe. Distance adds lag that no amount of hardware can remove.
