Hosting Astroneer

A dedicated Astroneer server keeps your save running even when the host is away, so everyone can pick up where they left off. 4 GB is what the builder suggests and suits most groups. Larger saves with big bases and lots of automation can use 6 to 8 GB.

Astroneer's dedicated server is officially a Windows program, so on our servers it runs under a compatibility layer. That's standard for Astroneer hosting and works well, but it does mean the server takes a little longer to start than some games.

01

Server settings

Settings live in AstroServerSettings.ini and Engine.ini, which you can edit in the file manager. They hold the server name, password, owner, the public IP and port players connect to, and how often the game autosaves. Set yourself as owner so you have admin rights when you join.

02

Your save

Upload an existing save from your PC to carry on with a world you started in co-op, or start fresh on the server. Saves live in the server's SaveGames folder. Daily backups keep a copy, and you can take your own before a big update.

03

Joining and location

Players add the server by its address in the game's server list. If you set a server password, share it with your crew along with the address. Make sure the server and your players are on the same game version, or they won't be able to connect. Choose the location closest to your crew: Salt Lake City or Dallas for North America, or Newcastle for the UK and Europe.

04

Performance

Astroneer's server works hardest when players build large automated bases, with lots of platforms, rails and storage running at once. If things start to slow down, more memory helps, as does a regular restart, which you can schedule from the game panel. Premium Ryzen hardware gives the most headroom, and Budget Xeon suits a small group with a modest save.

“I recently wanted to start my own FiveM server and Simplistic Node was very helpful when it came to everything. Purchasing the exact server I need to helping me set it up and explaining what everything was to me. I highly recommend this…”

Yes. Upload the save file to the server's SaveGames folder with the file manager or SFTP and set it as the active save.

They add your server's address in Astroneer's server list, then connect with the password if you've set one.

Astroneer dedicated servers are for PC players. Xbox and PlayStation players can't join them.

Budget runs on Intel Xeon servers with DDR4 memory and SSD storage, and is great value for smaller servers and friends. Premium runs on AMD Ryzen 7950X servers with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage: much faster per core, which busy or heavily modded servers notice most.

Premium servers are set up automatically: once your payment goes through, your server is created and you can log in to the game panel straight away. Budget hardware and our Dallas location are on pre-order, so those servers are set up as soon as they launch.

Pick the one closest to most of your players: Salt Lake City or Dallas for North America, Newcastle for the UK and Europe. Distance adds lag that no amount of hardware can remove.
