Hosting ARK: Survival Evolved

These servers run ARK: Survival Evolved, the original ARK, not ARK: Survival Ascended. ASE's dedicated server is one of the heavier ones around: even a fresh The Island map uses several gigabytes of memory, and it grows as tribes build and tame.

The builder suggests 12 GB, which suits a vanilla server for a small or medium group. Big maps, lots of mods or a busy public server want 16 to 24 GB, and we offer up to 64 GB for the most demanding setups.

01

Maps

Run The Island or any of ARK's other maps, including Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, Genesis, Ragnarok, Valguero, Crystal Isles, Lost Island and Fjordur. You set the map in your server's startup settings. Larger maps such as Ragnarok and Fjordur use more memory than The Island, so size up if you plan to run one.

02

Rates and settings

Experience, taming, harvesting and breeding rates live in GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini, which you can edit in the file manager. That's where you turn on PvE, change the day length, adjust stack sizes or tune engram points. Restart the server to apply your changes.

03

Steam Workshop mods

ASE servers load mods from the Steam Workshop by ID. Add the mod IDs to your settings and the server downloads them when it starts. Every player needs the same mods, which the game handles when they join. Mods add to memory and startup time, so leave headroom if your list is long.

04

Hardware and location

ARK saves and loads big worlds, so fast storage and CPU make a real difference. Premium runs on Ryzen 7950X with NVMe, which keeps saves and restarts quick. Pick Salt Lake City or Dallas for North America, or Newcastle for the UK and Europe.

05

Admin access

Set an admin password in your settings, then enter it in game with the enablecheats command to use admin commands. That's handy for freeing stuck creatures, spawning items for events or clearing away abandoned structures.

ARK: Survival Evolved, the original game. ARK: Survival Ascended is a separate game with its own server.

Around 12 GB for a vanilla server and a small group. Big maps, mods or a busy public server want 16 to 24 GB.

Yes. Set the map in your startup settings and restart. Each map keeps its own save, so you can switch back later.

Yes. Add Steam Workshop mod IDs to your settings and the server downloads them on start. Players get the mods when they join.

In GameUserSettings.ini and Game.ini, which you can edit in the file manager. Restart the server to apply them.

Budget runs on Intel Xeon servers with DDR4 memory and SSD storage, and is great value for smaller servers and friends. Premium runs on AMD Ryzen 7950X servers with DDR5 memory and NVMe storage: much faster per core, which busy or heavily modded servers notice most.

Premium servers are set up automatically: once your payment goes through, your server is created and you can log in to the game panel straight away. Budget hardware and our Dallas location are on pre-order, so those servers are set up as soon as they launch.

Pick the one closest to most of your players: Salt Lake City or Dallas for North America, Newcastle for the UK and Europe. Distance adds lag that no amount of hardware can remove.
